Specializing in Women's Issues; Children and Youth Concerns
I am a Registered
Social Worker (# 10112) with the BC College of Social Workers and have been practicing in the field of social work for more
than 10 years. My educational background includes a B.A. (Hons) in Psychology and Linguistics '97 (University of Western
Ontario 97) and a Master of Social Work '00 (Wilfrid Laurier University). I have work experience at: Grand
River Hospital in the Obstetrics Department (Kitchener, ON); Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (Nagpur, India); Turning
Point, Inc (Michigan, U.S.A) and Island Women Against Violence (Salt Spring Island, BC). In addition, I worked for 8
1/2 years at the Children's Aid Society of Toronto with many children, youth and families. I am also a member of the
BC Association of Social Workers (#1005001) and have taken numerous trainings in areas such as: Trauma and Healing;
Woman Abuse; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; Play Therapy; Attachment and Separation; Counselling with Teens; Anti-Oppression;
Non-Violent Communication and Mindfulness Meditation.
I believe that every individual, big or small, approaches life from their own unique
perspective and has their own inherent strengths. We can all lose our way at times, whether it be through a painful
life experience; or perhaps because we are feeling challenged as a parent. My role as a counsellor is to work with you
around your specific needs and to guide you through a personal learning and exploration process that will help to bring you
a sense of balance and peace. If you are struggling as a parent, with a child or teen who is having emotional or behavioral
difficulties, please feel free to get in touch with me about your concerns. In addition to offering individual child
therapy, I can provide support through parent; and/or family sessions. Healing Place also runs a group session called
'Kids Express' which helps children to learn about and better understand their emotions. There is more information about
the Kids Express program listed on this website.
My counselling style is to work from a variety of approaches and theoretical models depending on what will
work best for your particular situation. Most importantly, I work from a client-centred model, which means I put your
needs and concerns first. I hope that you will find working with me a supportive and safe place to explore your personal story; thoughts and
feelings; and relationships and that as a result, you will feel empowered and strengthened to move forward in your life.
If you have any concerns during the course of our counselling relationship, please feel free to let me know.
