My work experience includes working at the Vancouver Crisis Centre, at the BC Cancer Agency, at Surrey Hospice Society, Laurel Place Hospice Residence and at the Surrey Memorial Palliative Care Unit. In addition I have experience with Nanaimo Community Hospice Society as a bereavement counsellor, am on the Emergency Mental Health Team with Community Services on SSI and do school counselling for Pre-K to Grade 6. My professional development includes "Counselling Grieving Children and Adolescents", "Caring for the Dying, Making the Village Whole: Caring for the Living and Carrying the Dead",  "Spirituality and Multiculturalism", "Advanced Training in Trauma Treatments" with Dr. John Briere and "Exploring Spiritual Aspects of Death, Grief and Mourning" and "Helping Children and Teens Cope with Grief" with Dr. Alan Wolfelt.

I have my CCC (Canadian Certified Counsellor) designation from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and my RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor) designation from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

My counselling approach is integrative and I believe that some therapy models are best suited to various problems. This simply means that the individual client and problems they want to work on are the best indicators for what type of theoretical orientation will best fit. In addition to various therapy approaches, I believe that there can be deeper meaning for people who are going through difficult times. Making sense out of a bad situation can help bring healing and peace to a person. It is our goal at The Healing Place to assist with this quest, should this be your desire. My personal faith in Christ has been instrumental in my own journey and I welcome any conversations you may wish to have about issues of faith. However, it is not assumed that faith will be part of the counselling therapy and will not be introduced until you request this. In this way you have the choice to discuss or not discuss matters of faith.

I work with a variety of ages from young to old and can support families that are dealing with difficult problems, including broken families and blended families. I offer relationship and marriage counselling and work closely with the Gottman model. I am trained to work with any issues and welcome any questions and challenges that you may be presented with. My services are also offered to adults and children dealing with terminal illness, adults and children with prolonged chronic illness and all family members and individuals dealing with a recent bereavement.
